Emailing your resume is one of the most common ways to apply. A clear, professional email increases the chance that your application will be opened and read.
Subject Line for Resume Emails
Use a subject line that is specific and professional. Include your name and the job title or reference number when possible. Examples:
- Application – Marketing Manager – Jane Smith
- Resume – John Doe – Software Engineer (Ref #12345)
- Application for Sales Representative Position – Maria Garcia
Avoid vague subjects like "Resume" or "Job Application" and never use casual or humorous lines.
Email Body: What to Write
Keep the body brief and professional. In the first sentence, state the role you are applying for and where you saw it. In one or two short paragraphs, highlight your most relevant experience or one key achievement. End with a polite closing and your full name and contact details. Do not repeat your entire resume in the email.

Attachments
Attach your resume (and cover letter if requested) as separate files. Use the file naming guidelines above (e.g., FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf). Prefer PDF when the employer does not ask for an editable file. Double-check that you attached the correct, final versions before sending.
Follow-Up
If you do not hear back within one to two weeks, you can send one polite follow-up email. Restate your interest and the position, and attach your resume again if appropriate.
